Crawford Adventist Academy – East Campus is the brain thrust of Pastor Fitzroy Maitland and pastors of the East Greater Toronto Area Ministerium who thought it necessary to house a school at the Agape Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church. Meetings were held with the Toronto Adventist District School Board (TADSB) executive and the Ontario Conference Office of Education which led to its organization. Crawford Adventist Academy -- East opened its doors on September 4, 2007 with three teachers and 26 students from grades JK-6. It its third year of operation the enrollment grew from 26 to 42 students with four teachers. The school facilities consisted of four classrooms, the principal’s office and gymnasium. Assemblies and weeks of spiritual emphasis were held in the Agape Temple sanctuary.
The purpose of this school was to advance Christian Education in the Scarborough/Pickering and surrounding communities. Under the leadership of Ms. Wendy Hutchinson, teaching principal, the school incorporated a French and music program starting from Junior Kindergarten at the request of the constituency. Throughout the year the elementary program was known for the effectiveness of its reading program. Our Senior Kindergarten students are able to read and comprehend before entering grade one. Through the effective integration of faith and learning, all our students develop a greater appreciation for God and the Bible. To date, Crawford Adventist Academy - East Campus continues to grow academically and most important spiritually as it continues to be “Committed to Excellence in Christian Education.”
In August 2014, we were blessed with a “new” facility within the same general area. There are 14 classrooms, 4 boy/girls washrooms, 2 male/female (staff) washrooms, large gymnasium, boys and girls change rooms, a computer lab, a kitchen/staffroom, competent administrative offices and the potential classrooms to accommodate an early childhood center. The doors officially opened on September 2, 2014 for the 2014-2015 academic year at the beautiful campus located at 1765 Meadowview Ave. Pickering, ON.
Academically, CAA East continues to provide a comprehensive curriculum which maintains Christ and all things spiritual as the most important subject. Students are learning to read and write in both English and French and are completely immersed in math, music, and all other subject areas.
We look forward to a history of competence, consistency and growing in God’s grace while we prepare all of our students for the heavenly kingdom.
